Aramid Sail

Aramid Sail

Aramid fibers are strong, lightweight, and resistant to stretching. Aramids are a popular choice for sailcloth in racing boats, and they can even work in laminated cruising sails if they are kept out of the sun and not subjected to excessive bending. Aramid fibers are often combined within the same racing sail with even lower-stretch and higher-strength carbon fibers. While they are certainly not the cheapest option, aramid fibers are relatively inexpensive compared to the rarest and most exotic fibers.
