Asymmetrical Spinnaker

Asymmetrical Spinnaker

Asymmetric spinnakers are more triangular than their symmetric counterparts. They have a head, clew, and tack at each corner. The halyard is where the head connects. The forward end of a deck-mounted pole or sprit is where the tack attaches to the tackline. In this case, two sheets, one for each side of the mast, both attach to the clew and trail aft.

Because the pole or sprit is fixed, there is no need for a floating spinnaker pole, which makes it easier to set up and take down an asymmetric spinnaker.
